I cannot believe that it is April. The year is flying past and I am still listening to music. It has become a very important part of my life again. I am now listening to albums that have been recommended and many CDs which have fallen to the bottom of the pile. I am astonished at how many solo vocalists I have listened to recently.
Album 102 Flying Bulgar KLezmer Band - AGADA
This is such a find in the pile of albums. I really think that it belongs to Stuart..... but what the heck! Years ago we heard this band at the International Kite Festival at Sunderland. The boys were very young and really taken with the music. I have played this in assembly................ a great album. As soon as it strated to play I began to smile............ feel good music AND it makes me want to dance! (Good job I live alone... not a pretty sight!)
Album 103 Beethoven Bagatellen
Hmmmm .... lovely music. Kenneth introduced me to this album.
Album 104 Abba - Name of the Game
Ok.................. they are iconic. Yes, we all love Abba.... but as well as the fantastic songs that we adore, there is some total crap which is mindless. This album reminded me that I was always unsure about Abba. 16 songs on this album and yep .. love Waterloo, Gimme, Gimme, Rock me..... some of the other are ok, but the rest................... forget it.
Album 105 Bridget Jones - The Edge of Reason
No idea where this came from , but there are some wonderful songs on this sound track. 20 great tracks - different artists. A fun, easy album.
Album 106 Best of Simon and Garfunkel
Love it ............................ all my favourite songs. I know them all. AND sing them at top of voice in car.
Album 107 Katie Melua - Call off Search
I just love this album. So many fabulous songs. Call off the search, Closest thing to crazy, Blame it on the moon......................... was horrified to see how expensive tickets were for concert at SAGE. Would love to see her sing.
Album 107 Joss Stone - Soul Sessions
I think this album might belong to Luke or Dan but I really like it and it was ages since I last listened to it......... bottom of that great pile of CDS. So much talent and so young. Wonderful voice.
Album 108 Jose Gonzalez - Veneer
I have listened to this album a lot over the years but now it irritates me. It doesn't go anywhere and is so repetitive. Hmmm. disappointed. Guitar playing irritated me. I was really pleased when it came to the top of the pile but when I listened I just wanted top switch it off! Wrong album, wrong mood????
Album 108 Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left
Oh what an album. So wonderful. I think this was his first album and what an album. Such a loss........... glad I have rediscovered Nick Drake.
Album 109 Erik Satie
His music is very special to me and long before adverts used it. The simplicity is deceptive. I am grateful to Stuart for introducing me to it in about 1973! Played constantly since then.
Album 110 Bach - Barndenburg Concertos
Wow................ no other words necessary!
Album 111 Rachmaninov - 24 Preludes and Sonata 2
Another album that I know well - suffice it to say............. very Russian.
Album 112 Alison Moyet - The Turn
What a voice. Great tracks such as One More Time. Such easy listening and so good.
Album 113 Leonard Cohen - Essential Leonard Cohen - 2 CDS
31 tracks in total. Everything that is special about LC and all of the tracks I remember from my student days. When I was in Alaska I listened to this album all of the time. I had my ipod and sat in total wilderness, miles from anywhere watching a glacier collapse, harbour seals , eagles and an immature brown bear. The wilderness was awesome and LC was the only thing that ever broke the silence. So special!
As well as the albums I have been following http://radioluke.blogspot.com/, http://winloseordraw.wordpress.com/, http://musictraveller.wordpress.com/2011/03/19/hijaz-blues-new-composition/#more-213
Luke's weekly posting is interesting and I check stuff out on Spotify. Ruth's drawings are witty and challenging. Rachel's site has introduced me to music that I would never have listened to. Blogs are interesting......well other people's! Mine is just a record for me, though I am so graetful to everybody who has given me suggestions of things to listen to............... thank you!
